PC Build

Unread post #1 by balarila » Mon Sep 08, 2014 5:39 am

My 8-year old PC still works fine but, after so many years, one craves for more power and speed, so I started my PC build.

These just arrived, after almost 3 months!

Got the case, PSU, monitor, and drives locally. They've been sitting in a corner since I didn't expect shipping of the mobo and memory to take too long.

Started assembly:

That's a mobo with a 4790k intel CPU. It also has a 256gb M.2 SSD boot drive. That means boot-ups will be lightning fast, with extra space for most used programs so this baby should be a speed demon. Also helps to have 32gb of DDR3 RAM.

Fits nicely:

Tried booting it. No power.

Darn!

Back to the PSU vendor.

...unless someone here has any idea I may have done wrong.

---and, yes, I plugged in the power cord.

Not sure what type of power supply you have there. I don't think this will solve your problem, but it might spark other ideas.

I have an ATX type. When you plug it into the 220V supply you won't get anything out. That's because there are 2 pins that "detect" the mother board. They're just wires that shorts out when connected to the board. An ON-OFF switch if you may.

Here I cut the wires and connected them to a swich.

Can you show us your PSU? Maybe it doesn't have enough juice.

Plugged in both cable bunches into the mobo, the 24 pin mobo and the 8 pin CPU.

The PSU is a Seasonic 750W so that's a lot of juice. Besides, I did not connect any drives nor graphics card yet. Just wanted to see if it will power up with the SSD and memory only.

I had also already connected the case connectors (power, reset, USB, etc) so that should close the loop. Switched on the PSU, then pused the Power button on the case. Nothing happens.

Fortunately, I got both case and PSU from same vendor (Dynaquest). Will drop by over lunch today and have them figure it out.

RAMs are seated properly.

The cables of the PSU are all black. It's the fully modular type. But I tested it when I bought it: the vendor shorted #3 and #4 while plugged in and the fan came to life.

This is, BTW, my third build so I'm not exactly green. But so much change in a year in computers, let alone 8, so I may be missing something.

try mo raw yung 24 & 8 pins lang ikabait sa motherboard mo. No SSD, No Memory, No Connectors except Power On Switch.

minsan kasi pag may problema yung memory or yung ssd ayaw yan mang power on.

Will try.

But there should be, at least some lights on the mobo when the PSU is powered up, right?

I'm beginning to suspect PSU problem.
