How to Roughen Lumber?

How to Roughen Lumber?

Unread post #1 by balarila » Mon Apr 09, 2018 6:03 am

Saw a credenza in the mall and SWMBO fell in love with the finish. It seems to have been made from repurposed lumber. But is there a way to finish/distress new lumber to achieve the same look? Here's a photo of the finish:

I know how to ceruse so I have the painting and staining down pat. What I need to learn is how to make the wood texture-rough. As if it were a rough cut lumber that, through ages of use, do not have any more splinters.

I used metal brush along the grain... you can also use angle grinder that have variable control and put circular metal brush.
