For continuous use of the spraygun you need at least 2hp. 1 hp is useable but you may need to pause every once in a while so the compressor can catch up.

For brad nailer even 1/4 hp is sufficient.

I agree with j81, 2hp is just about right for spray paint.
Your cutting tools is only as good as your sharpening system.

I have a 2HP Vespa, standard tank. I also have various nail guns.

I can go nailing all day with any nailer attached.

But, on spray painting: I once painted a stand for a 60-inch TV and I would occasionally have to wait for the tank to refill. So, if you are spray painting large furniture or a whole wall, 2HP with standard tank may be not enough for continuous painting. But I find my compressor sufficient for about 80% of what I need to do.

I have a cute 0.5hp lightweight compressor that i can tag along with me to drive my nailer and also to pump air to my car and bike tires.
It always nice to have two air compressors, big and small for two different applications.
I am no spray paint expert so i leave this matter to our experienced members here.
I guess, next thing to ask is what brand of compressor is reliable. That also i dont know the answer. Seems Vespa is already good enough for most DIY applications.
I think i was a woodworker in my previous life...and the life previous to that.

What spray guns do you use? Different guns have different air volume consumption.

Conventional, HVLP, LVLP etc... then there is FULL Size & MINI Size spray guns.

Ideal compressor sizing .

HVLP Mini Spray Gun & LVLP Gun - 2Hp Vespa might cut it out but 3HP better

FUll Size HVLP - 5 HP 60 Gallons compressor above

You're welcome, AV. You may call be Ding, BTW.

Good points you mentioned, Jay.

AV, I use HVLP guns. I think JayL also sells some good guns and hoses (parang banda yun ah).

Rule of thumb when it comes to compressors: don't ask JayL unless you have very deep pockets.

Hehehe.

LOL ....

@Bro ding .. bago yan ah " Guns & Hoses " LOL

For HVLP guns with big compressor the Milton high flow couplers are great. Butas pa lang ng mga fiitings ang laki na ng difference sa normal fittings and will show sa gun performance.
